My Approach
"They think it's play.... We know it works." This was the motto of the very first pediatric therapy clinic I had the privilege of working at in Texas and it's a phrase that has stuck with me ever since. I felt it was a perfect description of my perspective on pediatric OT. I have a child-centered, playful approach to therapy knowing that when children are having fun, their minds are much more open and engaged in learning, growing and developing healthy new skills.
My goal is to guide children to overcome challenges and obstacles while honoring and respecting their limitations and boundaries. I firmly believe in helping children develop a 'growth mindset' and will utilize a holistic approach to achieve this. I love using arts and crafts to develop fine motor and visual motor skills and have found that children are much more interested in participating in challenging tasks if there's something 'special' to show for it. From personal experience, I've learned the incredible value of nature and outdoor activities to our overall well-being, so I will incorporate these types of activities as much as possible into our Occupational Therapy sessions.
